FECAFOOT: Elite Clubs announce determinant meeting on the future of championships

The secretary general of the Cameroon Association of Elite Clubs has revealed that the future of the country’s top-flight and second tier championships will be discussed on Friday during a crucial meeting in Yaoundé. He made the disclosure on Wednesday 1 March 2023.

Over 30 clubs in Cameroon’s primary and secondary championships are struggling to deal with financial commitments with staff and players citing delay in payments of subventions by FECAFOOT.

Nya believes the situation has become an urgent one that must be looked into this week.

“The meeting on Friday is a very serious one which could lead to tough decisions.” stated Nya on RSI Radio.

“We understand some clubs have received up to 11 Million FCFA” but cry out for the rest of the 48 million FECAFOOT had promised clubs before the start of the season.

Nya says they have been working with the Federation but pointed out a key problem.

“We are working with the Federation. Promises have been made without results. The players are suffering. It is a very serious situation.” He said adding that “We have been told that all is set for payments. We are waiting for the president (Samuel Eto’o). If nothing is done by Thursday, we will sit and you will see the next step,” Nya concluded.

Players and other staff of Elite championships have struggled to receive their entitlements this season.

The difficulties in the global football industry and particularly the Cameroon context have not eased the burden for clubs whose source of salvation over the years (FECAFOOT) is taking it’s time to keep their promise.
