  • FECAFOOT have confirmed the return of an abridged championship for the 2023/24 season
  • Pairings this Friday will birth a championship of two pools
  • The best two clubs will be promoted to Elite 1 while the bottom three clubs will be relegated
  • This season’s Elite 2 championship has seven new clubs

The Communication department of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has issued a release signed by its Secretary General, Blaise Djounang informing the general public and direct stakeholders of the draw ceremony to determine the pools of the 2023/24 MTN Elite 2 championship.

According to Wednesday’s Communiqué, the pairings will be made on Friday, October 6, from 10am at the FECAFOOT conference room.

Though FECAFOOT is yet to make public an official list of clubs concerned, reports suggest that 17 clubs could enter Friday’s draw, including the likes of Pouma and Volcan but kick442.com can’t independently confirm as efforts to get official information proved futile.

Pouma FC and Volcan finished third and fourth during the national interpools, behind ISOHSA and Bafmeng, who occupied the official promotion places per FECAFOOT’s announcement earlier, but unofficial sources have it that they could benefit from a special consideration to earn promotion.

Bafmeng and ISOHSA that earned promotion via the 2023 national interpools will join five newcomers Eding Sport, Dragon Yaounde, YAFOOT FC, Renaissance and Djiko FC that were relegated from the top-flight championship last season.

The last time the championship was played in the abridged format, the top two clubs from each pool progressed to the playoffs through which the best two clubs were promoted to the top-flight – it is likely that the same approach may be used this season.

The new season is expected to begin on October 10, though the fixtures will only be made public after the pairings.

The best two clubs in the championship will be promoted to the 16-club Elite One championship for the 2024/25 season while seven new clubs will join Elite 2 that season through a combination of the interpools and relegation from Elite One at the end of the 2023/24 season.
