The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant have parted ways by mutual agreement, bringing an end to a three-year chapter for the 70-year-old tactician.
FAZ general secretary Machacha Shepande confirmed the decision, describing it as amicable and aimed at charting a “new way forward” for Zambia’s senior men’s national team.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has agreed to mutually separate with Zambia Senior Men’s National Team coach Avram Grant,” Shepande said. “Both parties agreed to this decision, with FAZ wishing Mr. Grant the best of luck in his future endeavours. For now, we can only thank Mr. Grant for his contribution to the Zambian game.”
Grant, appointed on December 22, 2022, guided Zambia to consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications in 2024 and 2025/26, reinforcing the Chipolopolo’s continental presence. He also oversaw Zambia’s campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Grant’s #WCQ2026 Record:
- 8 games
- 9 points
- 10 goals scored
- 10 goals conceded
- 4th place in Group E
While his AFCON campaigns were considered successful, Zambia’s fourth-place finish in the World Cup qualifying group highlighted areas where FAZ may be seeking a fresh approach ahead of Morocco 2025, where the team is drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Mali, and Comoros.
Grant leaves a legacy of tactical discipline and steady continental progress. However, his departure raises questions about continuity and whether Zambia can maintain momentum under new leadership as they prepare for Africa’s premier tournament.
FAZ has promised to communicate further details regarding the team’s coaching setup in due course, leaving fans and stakeholders eagerly awaiting news of who will take the reins.
