Grapevine information in our possession have it that, Rigobert Song has invited Norway-based Faris Moumbanga Pemi to the senior national team for the first time in his career. The move marks his first call up to any category of the national team since 2018.

The 23-year-old hit man currently enjoying the form of his life at FK Bodø/Glimt in the Norwegian top-flight is one of the newcomers Song has included in the Lions squad to face Mauritius Island and Libya later this month as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers get underway.

His call up comes barely days after he scored one of the goals and assisted the other in the 4-0 League win against Stabæk Fotball.

His goals contribution this campaign has set his club en route to possibly winning the Eliteserien title.

The former U-17 and U-20 international has been on form this season for his club. His 15 goals and four assists in 25 games in all competitions this season finally secured the attention of the technical crew of the national team that had had to respond to questions about his non-inclusion in the past.

Faris will compete with the more established strikers to get a place in coach Song’s team barely weeks ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte D’Ivoire.

The native of Yaounde began his career back in Cameroon, before moving to the US in 2016 to play for Montverde Academy.

He later switched Bethlehem Steel for a year before joining Norwegian side Kristiansund in 2020.

He later moved to SönderjyskE in the summer of 2021 but lasted one season before returning to Kristiansund. His exploits at the club earned him the big move to his current club.

Since joining FK Bodø/Glimt in January this year he has not stopped scoring. His introduction to the national team re-emphasizes Song’s approach of giving a chance to all excelling talented Cameroonians across the globe.
