Evan Ndicka has reportedly emerged as one of FC Barcelona’s alternative defensive targets ahead of the summer transfer window as the Catalan giants continue their search for a left-footed centre-back. Recent reports suggest Barça are closely monitoring the AS Roma defender in case a move for their priority target, Alessandro Bastoni, proves too expensive or difficult to complete.

Barcelona are believed to admire Ndicka’s profile — a physically dominant, left-footed central defender who is comfortable in possession and capable of playing in a high defensive line. These qualities align well with the tactical demands of coach Hansi Flick, who is expected to reshape parts of the squad ahead of next season.

At 26, the Ivorian international has become one of Serie A’s most reliable defenders since joining Roma, establishing himself as a regular starter with his composure, aerial strength, and ball-playing ability. His contract in the Italian capital runs until 2028, meaning any deal would require Barcelona to negotiate a transfer fee, although he is still viewed as a more affordable solution than Bastoni.

Barcelona’s interest remains exploratory at this stage, with no formal negotiations reported yet. Financial Fair Play constraints continue to shape the club’s transfer plans, forcing the Blaugrana to carefully assess cost-effective options as they aim to strengthen their backline without overspending.

Ndicka is not the only name on Barcelona’s shortlist, but his combination of experience, age profile, and tactical suitability makes him an attractive candidate should the Bastoni deal collapse

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as Barcelona finalize their summer priorities and determine whether Ndicka becomes a serious target or simply remains a backup option.
