Cameroonian striker Karl Etta Eyong was the hero for Levante UD on Friday night, scoring a dramatic late winner to hand his side a crucial 3-2 comeback victory over CA Osasuna in an advanced Matchday 35 fixture of La Liga.
Coming off the bench in the 75th minute, Eyong changed the game at the perfect moment. Levante had found themselves in serious trouble after going 2-0 down early against Osasuna, with the visitors taking advantage of a disastrous start. However, the hosts fought back bravely, with VÃctor GarcÃa netting a first-half brace to level the contest before halftime.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Eyong rose highest in the closing stages to score a dramatic 90th-minute winner, sending the Estadi Ciutat de València into wild celebrations. The goal was his first since November, ending a frustrating six-month drought for the young Cameroonian.
The emotional weight of the moment was clear as Eyong reportedly broke down in tears after the final whistle. Earlier this season, the striker had exploded onto the European scene as one of Cameroon’s brightest emerging talents, but his form dipped significantly in recent months, leading many to believe he had faded from the spotlight.
Instead, football offered him another chance — and he took it.
Eyong’s decisive strike also came in a direct duel against fellow Cameroonian defender Enzo Boyomo, who featured for Osasuna but ended up on the losing side after Levante’s remarkable turnaround.
More importantly, the win keeps Levante’s survival hopes alive. The three points move them to within just one point of safety as the relegation battle intensifies heading into the final weeks of the season.
For Karl Etta Eyong, this may prove to be more than just a goal — it could be the moment that revives both his season and Levante’s La Liga dream.
