24_year_old Zambian footballer Enock Mwepu, has been appointed Academy Coach at Brighton & Hove Albion, the club has confirmed.
The premier league club announced on Friday morning that Enock will be coach of the under-9s at the club.
“We are delighted to announce that Enock Mwepu will take up the role of under-9s coach in our academy, in the New Year,” the club wrote.
Enock announced in October that he was putting an end to his playing career at the age of 24, after it was discovered he had a hereditary heart condition. After a period away from the game, the former NAPSA Stars midfielder has decided to return to the Brighton, where he has been handed a new role.
“God’s plan and timing is always perfect. Ending the year with Joy, I belong to CHRIST JESUS,” Enock wrote via his Twitter handle.
“We’re really happy that Enock has decided to remain here at our club and use his experience to help develop our young players,” Brighton’s first team coach Roberto De Zerbi said.
“Considering his age, Enock has a wealth of experience. He has played in the Champions League and Premier League as well as captaining his country. This is the next chapter for Enock in his footballing career,” De Zerbi added.
Nicknamed “The Computer” during his playing days, Enock Mwepu scored 11 goals in 81 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg, providing a further nine assists, while also playing in every one of their Champions League group stage games during the 2020/21 season.
He joint Premier league side Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2021_2022 season, after a loan spell at FC Liefering. Enock went on to making 27 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions, scoring three goals before retiring in October 2022.
At the National team level, he has made 23 appearance for Zambia at the senior level, scoring three goals, since he made his debut in September 2017.
