- Nsabinla Elvis crowned Mountain champion
- North West athletes shine at Mt Cameroon Race of Hope
Former 2022 Mount Cameroon Race of Hope Winner, Nsabinla Elvis was crowned winner of the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, held in Buea, capital city of the South West Region,on February 24.
Nsabinla in a dramatic scenario outsmarted, Amadou Abdu some 50 metres to the finish line, at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, within a time frame of 4hrs 47mins .
On second and third positions were Amadou Abdu (4h47) and Saidu Nuhu ( 4h49).
The first time Nsabinla finished among the top three of the race was in 2020.He came on third spot, behind Godlove Gabsibuin and Simplice Ndungeh.
He was dumped out of the top three in 2021,but returned to be crowned champion in 2022.In 2023 during the 50th anniversary, of the race, Elvis failed to make it to the podium.
Elvis Nsabinla who hails from Donga Mantung Division crushed Kenyan athlete, William Cheboi Rutto and Amadou Abdou to claim the trophy. He wins the sum of ten million Francs CFA, alongside some valuable products.
In the senior women’s category, Adamu Irene emerged overall winner in 5h36, followed by Tum Marina(5h39) on second position and Ngalim Lisette on third spot(5h52).
While in the Men’s “relai” category FAP’s trio of Cornelius Mentang, Adamou Show Boy and Adamou Ibrahim finished gold medalists.
The Junior Ladies Category saw the award of gold medal to Sever Telma, Layu Nancy won Silver and Eileen Chepkoech in bronze.
With fashion display being a side of attraction, Abigail Fondop, emerged the 2024 Miss Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.
The 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, saw the participation of more than six hundred athletes,from Costa Rica, Chad, Kenya, Ethiopia,Tunisia, France and Cameroon.In all eleven countries participated in the athletics Jamboree. The youngest athlete was of age eight years and three months.
