North West regional outfit, PWD Social Club of Bamenda will face current title holders, Coton Sport of Garoua in a crucial match day 10 fixture of the topflight football championship this Wednesday December 28.

The 2020 winners will lock horns with the 17-time title holders at the Bamendzi Stadium in Bafoussam with hopes of fully igniting what has been a difficult start of the campaign for the recently resurgent historic Bamenda-based outfit.

The Abakwa Boys currently rank 10th on the 11-team Group A of the championship with 7points and will be looking forward to picking maximum points to bolster their chances of pushing to escape relegation zone before the African Nations Championship break.

The 2021 Cup of Cameroon winners boosted by the full return of injury-troubled team captain, Burinyuy Derick will most importantly be working hard on capitalizing on the positives garnered from their goalless tie with 10-time winners, Canon of Yaounde last week.

The Bamenda side will also be expected to capitalize on Coton Sports’ inconsistency which has had the 2008 CAF Champions League runners-up struggling on 5th position after registering three victories, four draws and a defeat.

A victory for the Abakwa Boys, which could be the team’s first-ever competitive win over Coton Sport, could see the team temporarily dispatch Stade Renard of Melong and Djiko FC to 8th position ahead of the team’s final game of the season against Renaissance of Ngoumou on December 31 before the CHAN break.

Colombe, UMS… all lined up on hectic match day
Wednesday’s actions will also have title favorites, Colombe of Dja and Lobo and UMS of Loum all lined up for what promises to be a dramatic, penultimate matchday of league games this year.

Group A toppers, Colombe led by Astres ace, Anicet Mbarga Foe, despite the absence of their star midfielder, Ngom Bekeli, will host Centre regional outfit, Renaissance of Ngoumou at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium with hopes of maintaining their leadership on the temporal classification.

Second-ranked UMS of Loum who are chasing their maiden crown since 2019, will entertain 2017 winners, Eding Sport of the Lekie at the same venue in a late fixture.

Two other fixtures will follow the PWD Bamenda’s fixture against Coton Sport of Garoua. Resurging old folks, Aigle of the Menoua will host ten-time winners Canon of Yaounde at Bamendzi Stadium at 4:30pm.

Canon is ranked 4th on the placing and has chances of moving up to the top position in case of a win. A triumph for Aigle may also see the Dschang team further distancing themselves from relegation threats.

West regional outfit, Djiko FC will host Avion Academy of Nkam at the Bandjoun Municipal Stadium at 3pm.

Bamboutos, Gazelle FA matchup in Group B top-table battle

Group B games on Wednesday will have two top-notch fixtures taking place with heavyweights, Bamboutos of Mbouda and Union of Douala all on the starting block in quest of supremacy while Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda remains on standby.

Current Cameroon Super Cup winners Bamboutos of Mbouda will be up against newcomers and surprise package, Gazelle FA of Garoua at home at the Mbouda Municipal Stadium in a 3pm kick-off.

Bamboutos currently top Group A with 18 points after an incredible ride that has seen the team presently surviving as the only unbeaten outfit in the 21-club topflight and will be outright favorites against visitors Gazelle.

The team will however be expected to be at the top of its game to avoid a potentially humiliating home loss to the second-placed Gazelle FA side that has garnered 14 points in its opening nine games of the campaign. This, despite the club coming in as underdogs following the Garoua side’s topflight promotion earlier this year.

Another top fixture on Wednesday’s will have 3rd placed Fauve Azur Elite welcoming 4th sited and six-time champions, Union of Douala at the Military Stadium in Yaounde.

Mfou divisional pair, AS Fortuna will entertain Dragon of Yaounde while Apejes host Astres of Douala at the Olembe Annex A Stadium and Military Stadium respectively in separate relegation battle.

Yaounde II FC will be up against Fovu of Baham.
