Elite One Matchday 10 wrap: Double double earn max points for Djiko and Coton

The latest round of matches in the MTN Elite One championship were observed on Wednesday December 28 on grounds across Cameroon.

The Matchday ten fixtures for Pool A and B teams produced 16 goals through which UMS, Djiko FC, APEJES, Union Sportive, Renaissance FC, AS Fortuna And Cotonsport recorded wins.

Renaissance FC of Ngoumou produced the biggest shocker of this round of matches. Francois Enyegue and Eric Méfoe scored for the visitors who recovered from conceding in the second minute to collect maximum points after scoring a 94th minute penalty.

The defeat means Colombe relinquish top spot to UMS of Loum abd drop to third behind Cotonsport who won to go within one point of the leaders with 17 points.

Elsewhere, Daman Abdouraman scored twice for the first time this season to help Cotonsport beat PWD by 2-1. Former Cotonsport forward Leonel Ateba Mbida scored the lone goal for the Abakwa Boys from the penalty spot.

It was Coton’s first win in four and they end a mini crisis period ranked second on the log.

Fortuna recovered by beating neighbors

AS Fortuna returned to winning ways by edging neighbors Dragon by 1-0, courtesy a free kick goal from Yuh Moses in the 80th. It was his first goal of the season and scored from his first involvement after he was subbed in.

The result took Fortuna out of the bottom position for the moment.

Eloundou at it again for APEJES

Yves Eloundou Tanguy scored for the third game running while Apam Joseph scored his third goal of the season as APEJES outmuscled Astres in Yaoundé to record their third defeat in nine games.

APEJES showed a perfect response after slumping to a 4-2 defeat in their last outing.

Ndongo Emma’s side kept and precious clean sheet and got maximum points against the stubborn visitors.

Eloundou’s goals takes his tally this season to four goals, just a goal off lead scorer Emmanuel Mahopp of Canon.

Astres must quickly dust themselves and return to winning ways soonest in this championship of endless pressure.

UMS stink Eding

Richard Fabrice Ebongue Ebongue scored UMS’ lone goal in the 63rd minute to cause an end to Eding Sport’s run of three games without defeat

The result means UMS becomes only the second side to win five matches in the championship after Bamboutos FC who failed to win in the latest round of matches.

Bamboutos missed a penalty and were held to a goalless draw by stubborn Gazelle FA who followed the home victory against Fortuna with a great point on the road.

The draw was Bamboutos FC’s fourth on a spin as they continue to struggle in the absence of Kemajou Junior away with the intermediate Lions.

Djiko FC came from behind to score twice and beat Avion Academy by 2-1 away in Bandjoun.

Eric Cantona Ndoukoumi scored twice to cancel the first half lead Avion enjoyed thanks to Gaëtan Ebongue. Cantona who returned to the club after a brief spell away at Eding Sport de la Lekie announced his comeback in style.

Aigle win a point at the death

Aigle Royal of Menoua scored with almost the last kick of the game to win a point against Canon of Yaounde in the second game at the Bamendzi stadium.

David Pagou had gone down by 0-1 courtesy a 53rd minute goal from Canon and League’s lead scorer Emmanuel Mahopp.

Former PWD midfielder Ulrich Zanga scored the equalizer for the host, taking his season tally to two goals in six games.

Center-back Adamou Lifab scored the lone goal as Union Sportive of Douala picked up a precious one-nil win against Fauve Azur Elite in a dramatic fixture.

In the other fixture, YAFOOT and Fovu tied for nothing in the other goalless game of the day.
