Intermediate lions forward Harrison Ford Djonkep, scored a late winner as Eding Sport defeated Cotonsport 1-0 in an advanced day 13 game of the Cameroon top tier championship.

Eding Sport hosted Cotonsport on Wednesday evening at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium in Yaounde, in an advanced day 13 game of the Cameroon Elite one championship, as the cotonites had two advanced games played, so as to permit them feature in CAF Champions League games next week.

Cotonsport squandered several scoring chances early in the game, with Ebubechoukwu Emmanuel and Ramses Donfack caught wanting in front of goal.

A tough first half saw both sides returning to the dressing room tight zero goal either way.

Coach Gabriel Haman made few changes in the second half, with Ebubechoukwu and Eno Yves Brandon ceding their places to Siddick Aboubakar and Moubarak Abdoul.

The score line remained unchanged till the 84th, when Harrison Djonkep gave Eding Sport the lead. Goalkeeper Gadin Allambatnan appeared to have fouled an Eding Sport player in an attempt to stop an offensive move, but referee Njichu Clovis allowed play advantage Eding, as an on rushing Djonkep slotted the ball to the back of the net.

Cotonsport searched for an equalizer, and had shouts for a penalty waved away late in the game, as Eding secured all three points.

“We won against a very good cotonsport side, who proved that they’re the real representative of Cameroon at the CAF interclub competition. We will continue working so that we can earn a place for the playoffs,” Eding Sports’ coach Bonaventure Djonkep said after the game.

Gabriel Haman on his side was bitter towards the referee.

“We lose the game, but we’re furious towards this referee because he is the same refereeing following us everywhere. Whenever we have a key match, he’s the one officiating. We had situations which could have gone in favour of us, but he did not give it,” said Gabriel Haman.

Despite the defeat, cotonsport stays top of Group A with 20 points, though with two more matches played than second placed Colombe who will be in action on Sunday away against Aigle of the Menoua.

Eding Sport now moves up the fourth position with 17 points.
