Some four Elite one referees have been suspended till further notice, by the referee appointment committee. This following big errors noticed during their recent games in the top tier championship.

According to a communiqué made public on Thursday February 23 by the president of the referees appointment committee Stéphane Foko Kamga, Souleymanou Bah, Biel Kolondo, Talla Fokam, and Kamga Tiemo, have been suspended.

The case of Biel Kolondo is very fresh, as he awarded an early penalty to Union de Mouvement Sportif of Loum in their 1-0 win over PWD of Bamenda on Wednesday in an advanced day 14 game in Douala.

UMS had a corner kick at the fourth minute of the game, and PWD’s defender Nchindo Cletus headed away from a goal mouth tussle, but UMS’ Yann Chris Mpay went down in what looked like a simulation, but the referee awarded a penalty to the home side, which was scored by Joseph Momaso. The game ended 1-0 in favor of UMS, but the penalty incident early in the game, sparked tension and confrontations amongst fans and forces of law and order.

Souleymanou Bah was central referee for a match day 13 game pitting Stade Renard of Melong against Renaissance of Ngoumou last Sunday at the Annex of the Reunification stadium in Douala. Meanwhile Talla Fokam was second assistant referee in that same game.

During the game, a penalty was awarded to Stade Renard at the 93rd minute. However, before that a foul from a Stade Renard player was not whistled which would have prevented the penalty. Amih Renzo Azong stepped up and converted the penalty, to give Stade Renard a 1-0 win.

For the case of Kamga Tiemo, he was the referee for the match day 12 game in Garoua pitting Gazelle FA against Dragon of Yaounde. There was a match changing situation in the game, when Dragon’s last defender rough tackled a Gazelle forward to stop a goal scoring opportunity, but Kamga Tiemo waved away calls for a red card.

Poor decision making from referees has been the order of the day in the Cameroon league this season. Officiating has come under heavy criticisms, since the start of the season.
