The group stage of the 2023 Ejigbo Inter Ward Soccer Competition has reached the final eight stage with the conclusion of the group stage on Friday.

Ward 2 and 3 played out a 0-0 draw in the last group game of the competition at the Ejigbo Baptist High School field.

Teams from different wards of Ejigbo, Osun state have been trading tackles in the group stage and will now focus on quarter-final encounters en route to being crowned the champions.

One of the tournament coordinators, Waheed Lawal (also known as Obe) spoke on the motive of the tournament.

“The reason why we bring this tournament is to foster unity. We want total unity because the last time we had this competition was in 2007,” Lawal told www.kick442.com

“It is a good thing to revive the competition after 16 years. Honourable Mufutau Ayolla brought the competition back (also known as Murphy). The competition was sponsored by him in the name of Honourable Isa Sofoluwe who is the present Chairman of Ejigbo Local Government.

“Today’s game is the last match of the group stage. We have 11 wards. We zoned the competition into three places. We play in Ejigbo South, West, and Central. We have finished the ones in Ejigbo South and West. Two teas qualified from the two sides but here in Ejigbo, we finished the group stage today with four teams qualifying from here. We look forward to the next stage which is the quarter-final which will start on Monday.” He concluded.

The grassroots football competition is organized by the Ejigbo Sports Committee.
