Edo FA set Federation’s cup Competition kick off date

The 2023 Edo State Federation Cup Competition has been scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, March 8 ,2023 in Benin City with twenty-six clubs in contention.

After the draw ceremony for the football competition held at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium on Friday, defending champions Bendel insurance fc was seeded but will begin their title defence in the second round of the competition as they face the winner of the match between Osewmingie Fc and Etete Fc both of Benin city.

The colourful ceremony which held at the media centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, had in attendance representatives of the twenty six participating teams.

According to the draw by Edo state Football Association, this years Federation cup preliminary matches in the state will take place at two designated centres, Western Boys mini Sports complex , ikpoba hill and the School of Health Technology sports complex, Dumez Road Benin city, with the finals at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin city.

For the opening match, Osemwingie Fc and Etete Fc will face off on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the Western Boys mini sports complex, ikpoba hill, Benin city, by 9.00 am.

Other day one fixtures will see Benin Warriors Fc take on Delight Fc by 11am, while Royal Force Fc will Square up against Star City by 1pm and Adia Sports up against Meggap FC, by 3pm.

Meanwhile, the School of Health Technology sports complex at Dumez Road in Benin city will host four games of the first round of matches on march 8 2023, as Future Stars Fc take on West Gate Fc by 9am, ,Elite Fc will do battle with Morska Fc by 11am, while Etto Fc lock horns against Mission Side Fc by 1pm and the last match of the day will see Constance DK FC and Alhaji Fc trade tackles by 3pm.

According to the fixtures, the second round of the competition begins Friday, March 10 2023, with Bendel insurance fc in action.

Meanwhile, last year runner up Bendel Insurance Feeders, Dynamite Fc, BJ Fc, Eagles wings Fc, inneh stars Fc, Rolly Fc and Yak sports are the begin their quest of lifting the FA cup in the second round of the competition as they were drawn bye .

Cup holders Edo Queens and Fortress Ladies were the only teams that registered for the competition in the women category and will meet in the finals in a date to be announced later by the Edo state Football Association.

The Edo FA secretary Elder Emmanuel Ajibola in his closing remarks appealed to the participating teams to play by the rules of the game and as well take medical and health concerns of their players and officials with all seriousness, he however promise the teams that the state FA will do it’s best to organise a smooth event.
