Hilltop Strikers of Bamendakwe have qualified for the 16th finals of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon.
The defending North West Regional League champions stun elite One side Gazelle FA of Garoua in post match penalties to go through to the next stage.
The representative from the North West region came into the match as the underdogs and Gazelle FA took advantage of their nervousness in the opening quarter of the match to go two goals up thanks to a Thierry Djédéboum brace.
The two goals awakened the coach Ngwa Remy and his boys who scored two goals through Junior Godstine and Ngufor Terence to equalize before conceding the third scored by Soulei Sanda at the stroke of half time.
In the second half of the match, Hilltop Strikers came back into the match when Junior Godstine scored his second of the match to level scores at three goals on either side.
Minutes later, Raisu Hadji gave Hilltop Strikers the lead before Gazelle FA equalized via Aboubakar Ousmanou in added time to take the match to penalties.
Goalkeeper Anye Boris saved one penalty and another Gazelle player kicked one wide for coach Ngwa Remy’s boys to win 5#4 on penalties.
The results is a shock to many as Gazelle FA finished fourth in the just ended elite One championship.
Hilltop Strikers of Bamendakwe will face Center Regional League club Foudre of Akonolinga in the 16th finals. Foudre eliminated elite 2 side Unisport of Bafang.
