It was all squared at the end of the opening match of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League between Athletico FC of Abidjan (Ivory Coast )and Sporting Club Casablanca (Morocco) in Korhogo on Sunday.
The clash between the two debutants ended in a 1-1 draw.
Athletico FC qualified as champions of the host country after their third-place finish at the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League.
CS Casablanca won the UNAF (North Africa) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers to make it to the competition.
Esperence Agbo scored the first goal for the host in the 37th minute capitalising on the failure of the Moroccans to clear the ball inside the box.
The host seemed to be coasting home with the win before CS Casablanca equalised in the final ten minutes.
N’Guessan Koffi fired a shot outside the box which hit the back of the net in the 81st minute to even the scoreline.
Both sides will hope to get their first win in the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League when they meet Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa) and JKT Queens (Tanzania) in their last two group games.
