Cranes Set to Get CHAN Cash

FUFA President Moses Magogo might just have set a precedent for other national federations on how to get Government funding.

‘Get on Twitter, threaten to withdraw a national team from an International competition, and the Government will come to your aid’. A trick that has yielded results, Football256 reports.

This website can reliably confirm that FUFA will receive funds of up to the tune of Ugx 2B to help the Uganda Cranes prepare for the forthcoming tournament in Algeria.

“Yes, it’s true today Thursday 15th December a meeting was convened and it was agreed that for now government releases UGX2B to enable the federation to prepare for CHAN, the rest (Ugx6B) will be sent in January” a source that preferred anonymity told Football256.

It should be noted that in June 2022, the sports subsector registered a record budget increment to Shillings 47.81 billion from Shillings 17 billion provided in the last financial year.

On this budget, FUFA takes the lion’s share (17 billion) more than any other Federation.

However, although the National Council of sports-NCS and its National Federations welcomed the new budget, many Federations had not received a coin at least until December which prompted an outcry in parliament.

It is from this background that the August house through the speaker Anita Among instituted an ADHOC parliamentary select committee chaired by Hon. Laura Kanushu to investigate the inconsistencies in NCS’s disbursement of funds and several federation heads have since been invited to the committee to present their cases.

While appearing before Parliament’s select committee inquiring into operations of the National Council of sports last week, Magogo said that FUFA as of Thursday 8th December received a total of 2.878 billion Shillings in two installments.

The Cranes who will be making a sixth straight appearance at the biennial showpiece have on the previous five occasions failed to advance from the group stages a jinx they’d want to break in 2023 in Algeria.
