Cotonsport FC of Garoua, has appointed Bisseck Jean Baptiste as their new head coach, to replace Gabriel Haman.

This follows a series of poor results for the 17-time Cameroon league winners, who have only won two games in 2023.

Gabriel Haman took over late last year from Aboubakar Souleymanou, first on interim basis, before he was made permanent coach later on. Haman helped cotonsport secure their 17 league title and the also won the 2022 Cameroon cup.

The 2022-2023 campaign has not gone as planned for the coton weavers, who are bottom of their group in the CAF champions league, haven lost all their five games at this stage of the competition.

At the local scene, they have only managed six wins, five draws and suffered four defeats in 15 league games, and currently sitting third on the classification table in Group A, with 23 points.

Cotonsport has only won one of their last nine games in all competitions, just two wins in 2023. Haman and his staff were previously given a three match ultimatum, but since then they have won just one (1-0 against Djiko FC) and suffered two defeats to Al Ahly and Canon of Yaounde.

Sunday’s 0-1 defeat to Canon at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium, was the final blow for Gabriel Haman, who has now been replaced by former Canon manager, Bissek Jean Baptiste.

Former Canon coach Bisseck Jean Baptiste will now take over at Cotonsport

Bisseck Jean Baptiste started the season with the Kpa-kum, but was fired for similar reasons and replaced by former Cotonsport’s trainer Aboubakar Souleymanou.

Now Bisseck will take over the reigns of cotonsport, who still have five league games left and are preparing to journey to South Africa, where they will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game of the CAF champions league.

Bisseck Jean Baptiste will be assisted by Saidou Hamadjoda, who also doubles as goalkeepers coach. Hamadou Soussia will be second assistant coach, while François Ngoumou stays in his role as technical adviser.

In another communiqué, cotonsport stipulates that Gabriel Haman will now act as the technical adviser at the cotonsport training center.

A new technical director has also been appointed at the club, in the person of Oussoumanou Bouba.
