- President Ramon Jesurun is presently in Police Custody in Miami
- He earned his berth behind bars via confrontation with security officials post their Copa America final defeat to Argentina
Ramon Jesurun, the head of Colombia’s Football Federation, and his son Ramon Jamil Jesurun have been arrested in Miami in connection with a fight that happened after the dramatic Copa América that pitted their national team against Argentina.
Sunday’s final started over an hour late after police initiated a lockdown that left hundreds of fans stuck outside Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium. Videos on social media showed security scuffling with fans attempting to breach the gates.
According reports, events before the start of the final during which ticketless fans attempted to break into the stadium and their post-match behaviour after their defeat led to their arrest.
Media reports and jail records have it that after Colombia lost
Sunday’s final to Argentina, president Ramon started a fight with security officials on his way out.
Florida-based news outlet Local10 cited a police department report that said the two had been accused of fighting security guards after the match ended.
The Colombian Football Federation has declined to comment on the issue though it’s red hot in the news back in South America.
