The delayed 2023 edition of the African Football schools championship, organized by the Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC), ended on Saturday in Kinshasa, with a clean sweep for the Republic of Congo.
Host nation, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) took second place in the men and women’s categories, at the stade de Tata Raphael.
The tourney’s closing ceremony was followed live by UNIFFAC president, Jean Guy Mayolas and over 1000 spectators.
In the women’s category, the Congo Republic defeated DRC via a two-one margin.
Tsuinguta Nzazi scored the lone goal for the DRC but two goals from Richesse Ongouaya and Benedie Okiele gifted Congo Republic gold.
A solitary goal in the men’s category by Ikambi Marien made it a special “double” for the Republic of Congo, and another near miss for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Each winners’ medal was accompanied by the sum of 50 thousand USD pegged on a football development project. The Congo Republic thus pocketed 100 thousand dollars.
For the teams that participated, the DRC placed second on the podium, and the silver medal was accompanied by a cash prize of 75 thousand dollars for a football project. The Congo Republic obtained another 100,000 thousand dollars as reward for ultimately finishing first, and Gabon finished third with a sum of $50,000.
The tournament drew curtains after two days of activities at the Tata Raphaël stadium with a smooth organization for a retard 2023 tournament, which was carried forth from last year – to be hosted this year. The zonal champions will represent UNIFFAC during the continental finals in which they will test their know-how against other zonal representatives.
For UNIFFAC, the third edition of the Dr Patrice Motsepe-inspired African football Schools championship championship will be held later this year at a venue to be decided by the zonal body.
