The Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA) has officially dismissed Hervé Happy from his role as head coach of the DR Congo women’s national team, following a disappointing performance at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Happy, who had been appointed in May 2025, leaves alongside his assistants Michel Bradaia and Denis Velour after the Léopards Dames failed to progress beyond the group stage.
A Difficult AFCON Campaign
The Léopards endured a frustrating outing in the tournament, suffering three defeats in three matches, which sealed their early exit. Despite moments of promise, the team struggled to find stability and cohesion against more experienced opposition.
Happy’s record at the competition:
- ⚽️ 3 Matches
- ❌ 3 Defeats
- 🏁 Group Stage Elimination
The results sparked mounting criticism and internal reflection within FECOFA, ultimately leading to the coaching reshuffle.
Mihayo Steps In for a Fresh Start
In a bid to spark a revival, Pamphile Mihayo has been appointed as the new head coach of the Léopards Dames. The former TP Mazembe tactician is widely respected for his discipline, tactical organization, and understanding of Congolese football dynamics.
Mihayo will make his official debut when DR Congo face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the second round of the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers — a crucial tie that could define the team’s direction heading into the next competitive cycle.
FECOFA hopes that Mihayo’s experience at both domestic and continental levels will bring renewed structure and belief to a side eager to reassert itself among Africa’s elite.
