Cameroon’s national 7-a-side football team is stepping up preparations ahead of the 2026 Football 7 World Cup set to take place in Honduras from May 27 to 31. The Lions, currently in camp in Yaoundé, showed promising signs on Tuesday after recording two convincing friendly victories against Mentalis.

In the opening test match, Team Cameroon secured a 3-1 win before following it up with an even more dominant 3-0 victory in the second encounter. The positive results capped off what the technical staff described as a satisfactory first phase of external training camp.

Buoyed by the encouraging performances, the squad will move into an internal training camp from Wednesday, May 20, in Yaoundé I subdivision as preparations intensify ahead of the global tournament.

Head coach Ousmanou Christophe will continue working with a reduced squad, with 20 players retained from the initial list of 22 called up for camp. The next phase is expected to focus on fine-tuning tactics and team chemistry before the team departs for Honduras.

Cameroon have been drawn in a challenging Group B alongside Brazil, Spain and Canada, setting up a difficult path for the Lions. Despite the tough opposition, Team Cameroon will be aiming to represent the nation proudly and make an impact on the international stage.
