Two young Cameroonian talents, Aris Stéphane Noubissi and Angel Yondjo, are making waves at French Ligue 1 club Lille, currently training with the first team while senior players are away on international duty with France.
Noubissi, 19, is a versatile central defender who can also operate in midfield. He was the first to join Lille from Cameroon’s Dauphine Academy, arriving several months ago. Shortly after, 18-year-old Angel Yondjo followed, despite interest from multiple European clubs. Angel is a highly rated striker who previously played at EFBC Douala, one of Cameroon’s top football academies.
Both players were signed by the same management team responsible for bringing fellow Cameroonian Carlos Baleba to Lille, underlining the club’s commitment to nurturing promising African talent. Baleba has already established himself as an important figure in Lille’s midfield.
Lille has a strong reputation for its youth development philosophy, focusing on integrating young players into the first team by providing a supportive environment that balances technical training, tactical education, and mental resilience. The club’s academy and scouting network have produced numerous high-profile talents who have gone on to succeed at the highest levels of European football.
Notable graduates and former Lille players include Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker who became one of Serie A’s most feared forwards; Leny Yoro, a promising young French defender making his breakthrough; Eden Hazard, who rose to global stardom before moves to Chelsea and Real Madrid; Aurélien Chedjou, the solid Cameroonian defender; and Jean Makoun, another Cameroonian international who made a significant impact during his time at the club.
Coaches at Lille have praised Noubissi’s defensive awareness and composure on the ball, alongside his ability to contribute in midfield when needed. Meanwhile, Yondjo has impressed with his pace, technical skill, and natural goal-scoring instincts.
Training alongside seasoned professionals offers the pair valuable experience as Lille looks to integrate youthful energy into their squad ahead of the new season.
