Fovu of Baham, Victoria United FC and Lekie Filles of Yaoundé have all been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup, men and women’s Champions League in a weekend to forget for the ambassadors of Cameroon football.

Fovu suffered a 0-1 defeat at home this Sunday at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium to culminate to a disappointing 5-0 aggregate defeat to Liberia’s Paynesville FC.

While Fovu that battled administrative problems throughout the short campaign were playing for honour at home, Victoria United FC completed a back-to-back 0-1 defeat away in Accra.

Lekie Filles in the Women’s CAF Champions League failed to secure the desired win against TP Mazembe Ladies to finish second in the mini championship of four clubs to determine the champions of UNIFFAC. The results in the competition put Lekie in second position in the competition while Mazembe emerged champions.

The results this season doesn’t differ from the situation of last season which Cotonsport got eliminated from the CAF Champions in the first preliminary round and Bamboutos FC was denied the chance to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup just like Awa Filles FC in the women’s Champions League.

This poor showings pushes Cameroon further down the rankings in the CAF interclub chart and further reduces the chances of ever recovering four slots in the interclubs.

The results in the past two seasons is a reflection of the state of Cameroon football these days and highlights the deep-rooted realities frailties disguised by the massive public relations campaign on social media.
