Cameroon: Victoria United misses MTN Elite One appointment with APEJES

  • Victoria United FC of Limbe have surprisingly stayed away from their 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship match day five game at home to APEJES of Mfou.

Players of the newly-promoted club were not present at the Limbe Centenary stadium at the scheduled kick-off time of 3pm and the game ended up not being played as only APEJES was present.

According to our sources the club’s players have assembled at a spot in town but received firm instructions not to go for the game.

The strange move has left tongues wagging across the football family especially given that officials of Victoria United FC attended the pre-match meeting and its photos were flooded on social media.

The match commissioner and his team of officials noted the club’s absence after the regulations prescribed time and APEJES players are about departing the match venue.

Victoria United FC have endured a struggle start to life in the big time – winning one of their four games and suffered a defeat in three in a spin.

Earlier this Saturday, their president released a video distancing himself from politics and search of opportunities through football. He concluded that session of his series of releases lately with the word “goodbye” which presently being interpreted in different ways by stakeholders.

Going by the regulations of competitions organized by the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) OPOPO as they are fondly called will lose the game and three points on the general classification.

The past 12 months of the club’s life have been engulfed in controversy, though their management crew led by Nkwain Valentine has repeatedly rebuffed claims of challenging times while telling faithfuls he has invested fortunes to modernize the club and secure a berth in the CAF Champions League.
