MKE Ankaragücü, the Turkish club associated with Christian Bassogog and Achille Webo, has been officially relegated to the second division.

The team’s fate was sealed during a crucial match against Trabzonspor on Sunday May 26, where they suffered a 4-2 defeat on the championship’s final day.

Despite a promising start, Ankaragücü’s defense crumbled, allowing Trabzonspor to secure victory and condemn the Cameroonian players to the antechamber of the elite championship in Turkey.

Christian Bassogog, the Cameroonian international, had been a key figure on the right side of the field. However, even his efforts couldn’t prevent the team’s downfall.

Trabzonspor’s Edin Višća equalized in the 63rd minute, and Ali Sowe’s goal put the visitors ahead in the 78th minute. Ankaragücü’s defense collapsed further in the final moments, conceding three goals from Enis Destan (87th, 90th, and 90th+7).

The club’s overall performance in 38 matches was catastrophic, with 8 wins, 16 draws, and 14 defeats. MKE Ankaragücü finished the season in 17th position—a heartbreaking relegation with 40 points.

Christian Bassogog, under contract until June 30, 2025, played thirteen games for the side this season scoring two goals.

He is now faced with a difficult decision: continue in the second division or seek a new destination for his football journey. The 28-year-old’s next move remains uncertain, but the disappointment of relegation lingers for both players and fans alike.
