  • A monument dedicated to Samuel Eto’o Fils has been toppled in the city of Yaoundé
  • The statue was partly destroyed by an angry crowd that paid an unplanned visit to the Yaoundé 6 municipality

Samuel Eto’o is widely accepted as Cameroon’s best ever footballer but his management of the Cameroon football federation is taking a toll on his popularity

Samuel Eto’o Fils’ monument at the Yaoundé six municipality has been partly destroyed by hoodlums expressing their discontent about the legend for reasons kick442.com can’t independently confirm.

The monument built and unveiled in December 2020 by FECAFOOT delegate to the general assembly from the Centre Region, Yoki Onana was destroyed on Monday March 4.

According to sources the visitors committed the act on the night of the day, pulling down the former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker’s monument, which before this incident served as one of his best honors.

The sculpture immortalising the president of FECAFOOT one of its arms off.

Eto’o’s statue forms part of a homage to one of the most important figures in the history of Cameroon football which has now been destroyed.

Sources say state security services have been briefed about the case and they are currently working on tracking down perpetrators of the act.

Eto’o is currently experiencing a low moment as criticism about his management of FECAFOOT rises – something which could be linked to act of vandalism.
