  • Marc Brys and the rest of the Indomitable Lions staff penned their contracts on Monday at the country’s ministry of Sports and Physical education
  • Samuel Eto’o Fils expected to be a party to the formality missed it citing family reasons
  • Coach Brys begins work this Tuesday as he is scheduled to inspect national infrastructures

President Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) registered absent at the ceremony to sign and unveil the country’s new senior men’s national team coach Marc Brys.

Eto’o missed the event citing his father’s funeral as bailout and not the open resistance of the appointment of the Belgian nor plans to appoint his own set of trainers.

“We thank you for inviting us to the ceremony. Following this, we inform you of the fact that we received the letter two hours before the said ceremony,” Eto’o said.

“Unfortunately, we are busy organising the funeral of our late Dad, and for this reason we will not be able to attend the ceremony,” a letter from Eto’o who buries this weekend read.

Marc Brys, Ashu Bessong Cyprien, Francois Omam-Biyik and the rest of the technical crew except Greek video Analyst all penned a two-and-half contract which will run from the day of signature.

Eto’o is gutted by the fact that his proposed options were all chalked off by government who explained via Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi that those proposed by Eto’o were hyper expensive.

The absence of Eto’o at the ceremony only heightens the standoff between the Federation and government.

Per the resolutions of last Saturday’s emergency Executive Committee meeting, Eto’o is expected to appoint a new staff of its own by 4pm this Tuesday.

In the meantime, coach Brys has been tasked to work diligently and objectively to help Cameroon qualify for the next FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

The 61-year-old Belgian tactician replacing Rigobert Song Bahanag will begin work this Tuesday by touring national Sports infrastructures to help him better plan for upcoming commitments.

Cameroon will face Cape Verde Island and Angola in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the month of June. Both games will provide a first litmus test for the OH Leuven coach.
