Cameroon: History as Njuma Ikose becomes first ISOHSA affiliated player to earn NT call up

Teenage attacking sensation Ikose Njuma Conrad has become the first affiliate of the Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe to be called up to any category of the Cameroon national football team.

The 18-year-old who finished the 2023/24 MTN Elite Two championship season as the top scorer of the championship and contributor of 33% of his club’s goals was named in the 30-man squad of Cameroon’s U-20 national team announced on Saturday evening by the communication department of the Cameroon Football federation (FECAFOOT) on instructions from head coach, Yvan Kamnoe.

Njuma joined a number of exciting talents in the squad to enter a two-week camp in preparations for the upcoming U-20 Union of Central African Football federation (UNIFFAC) tournament rumored to be planned in Gabon.

The team will open camp on Sunday at the CAF Excellence Center in Mbankomo. The squad will work till July 21, shaping themselves ahead of the task that awaits them.

The talented squad includes four goalkeepers amongst which is Ning Che Bong of PWD, nine defenders, nine midfielders and eight forwards.

Victoria United FC’s title winning duo of Emmanuel Mougan Ngon in defense and midfielder Nathan Douala who had a great playoffs despite his age controversies after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) participation in Cote d’Ivoire are in the squad which cuts across the top-flight to the third tier championship.

YOSA’s Hamed Hamza who was an almost guaranteed starter last season will compete in midfield with APEJES excellent midfield maestro Noh Nafeng Yvan who was skipper of the 2021 generation of Cameroon’s U-17 national team.

Upfront Njuma who is gradually developing to a household name in Cameroon football will compete with the likes of Adrien Boris Mfoumou, who finished last season as the deputy top scorer in the MTN Elite One championship, Angel Yondjo Mata – the heart of Cameroon’s attacking efforts during his U-17 days and the best player plus top scorer of the last edition of the Easter Cup in Douala, Bernard Nguene.

The entire squad members ply their trade back in Cameroon.

The team is expected to sandwich training sessions with friendly matches during its time in camp during the two weeks together.
