Guinness Super League newcomers Cyclone Filles FC have appointed 2024 U-20 World Cup coach Hassan Balla Abdelsalman as their head coach for the next six months.

The Douala-based club made the decision to replace coach Urbain Mbangue with Hassan public on Tuesday, March 3, via its CEO Marthe Ngo Mouaha aka Dinaly.

“I’m extremely happy to announce that Hassan Balla who led Cameroon’s U-20 girls team to glory recently is the new head coach of Cyclone Filles FC,” President Dinaly wrote on her Facebook page.

The appointment marks an end to the Urbain Mbangue era as the man that masterminded their promotion leaves the club on the 11th spot on the log with just nine points picked up from 10 games despite notable draws against big names like Lekie and Eclair Filles.

Cyclone Filles becomes the third club in the Littoral Region that is hiring Coach Hassan who worked at Authentic of Douala in the past two seasons and won the league over a decade ago with Caiman Filles of Douala.

The former Awa Filles head coach and multiple Guinness Super League winner already had a first meeting with his new players this Tuesday in their training ground at the University of Douala.

Hassan, nominated for the CAF coach of the year in 2024 is expected to spark a new energy in the young Cyclone Filles FC team that desperately needs a run of good results to increase their chances of escaping the bottom of the table and surviving the drop from the Guinness Super League.

The second round of the FC Ebolowa-dominated championship will kickoff in the days ahead, and in that phase of the competition, Cyclone under “Roi de herbes” as Hassan is popularly known will concentrate their all to ensure they get enough points to earn another year in the top-flight championship.
