The players of Cameroon top-flight championship side Bamboutos FC of Mbouda have put an end to their participation in activities of the club for the 2024/25 season due to non-payment of salaries and bonuses.
A release sent to the kick442.com editorial team this Wednesday, March 5 has it that the entire squad of players for the club have decided to discontinue training and match activities related to the club because of non-payment of training and match bonuses since the start of the season.
Though they insisted the document not be made public, they say they won’t resume club activities until their demands are met.
The players also expressed discontent about the fact that their injured colleagues have not been looked after by their club or even the federation that promised insurance for footballers when Eto’o came to power in 2021.
This unpleasant situation comes barely three days after Bamboutos FC lost 0-1 to Union Sportif of Douala side whose players also staged a strike action during the start of the season.
Bamboutos FC players join the likes of Union Sportif of Douala, Fovu of Baham, AS Fortuna of Mfou, Aigle Royal of Menoua, Unisport of Bafang amongst others whose players have publicly expressed discontent about the situation of their renumeration at a time Cameroon football is trumpeted to be waxing strong under Dr Samuel Eto’o Fils.
A few weeks ago, the country’s Minister of Sports had a meeting with club owners which resulted in the government disbursing 560 million FCFA for clubs. Unfortunately that money is yet to get to the club’s to date.
Bamboutos FC is currently 10th in the MTN Elite One championship with 16 points from 14 games so far. A bulk of those points have been picked under Anicet Mbarga Foe.
