- Fans of FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o Fils chanted his name while promising to behead the national team coach on Tuesday in South AfricaÂ
- Marc Brys and Samuel Eto’o Fils have not seen from the same angle since he became coach of Cameroon via a ministerial decision allegedly without FECAFOOT’s consentÂ
Fans of president Samuel Eto’o Fils of the Cameroon Football Federation have told the country’s Belgian coach, Marc Peter Brys to go back to his country while threatening to behead him.
The ugly scenes were produced on Wednesday, March 19 in Nespruit in South Africa where Cameroon played a goalless tie against Eswatini.
Brys who has been at loggerheads with the FECAFOOT president since the country’s ministry of Sports appointed him without the federation consent just about a year ago was talking to one of the FIFA match officials before kick-off when a cluster of Cameroon fans opened the verbal attack on him.
“Marc Brys you will never achieve what Eto’o has achieved.”
“Go back to your country. We will cut your neck,” they shouted before chanting; “Eto’o, Eto’o Eto’o.’
Despite the attacks Brys didn’t pay attention to the crowd as he focused on talking to the official.
The video of the incident has since gone viral and the Cameroon football fraternity’s deep rooted divide is reflected in the reactions across the board.
Fans of Eto’o and his FECAFOOT administration hold that Brys deserves to be treated as such while the others have condemned the act likening it to Xenophobia, especially as it happened in South Africa.
The Cameroon Football Federation is yet to react about the situation and previous attacks the former St Louven coach has been subjected to.
Marc Brys’ frustration has grown with every passing day in Cameroon. The latest of the long list of frustrations is imposing assistant coaches to him and FECAFOOT’s refusal to clear his assistant Joachim Manunga to accompany him on the bench despite their long-standing working relationship in the game.
Cameroon’s goalless draw away to Eswatini was Brys’ ninth game at the helm of the Indomitable Lions. He has won five and played a tie in one. His unbeaten run has helped the Indomitable Lions stay at the top of the group with nine points, ahead of their day six game against Libya in Yaoundé next Tuesday.
