The Bafang Municipal stadium, that hosted the controversial game pitting home side Unisport against Victoria United, has been suspended indefinitely.
Unisport hosted Opopo at the Bafang Municipal stadium on Sunday, in one of day 14 fixtures of the Cameroon Elite two championship.
A goal from David Caleb had put Unisport in front in the second half, before the home side had another goal ruled out for offside late in the game.
The scenes soon turned chaotic, when Victoria United was awarded a penalty deep in added time. The fans stormed the pitch and venge their anger on the officiating trio, made up of Boyomo Biguemi, Mpande Mpou and Wandja Stéphane.
Unisport through president Jacques Donald Ngamenie, had made public a communiqué on Sunday evening in which they condemned the behavior of the fans.
But now, the transitional council running the Cameroon professional football league, has suspended the Bafang Municipal stadium indefinitely.
According to a release from the secretary general of the council Faustin Blaise Mbida, “the Bafang Municipal stadium is suspended from all competitions, while awaiting the decision of the federal homologation committee.”
The Unisport vs Victoria United scenario, has been the talk of the day amongst football lovers in Cameroon.
It is yet to be seen which further sanctions will be metted on the perpetrators.
