  • The match saw Bryan Mbeumo etch his name into the history books by scoring the first Premier League goal of the year, but it was Arsenal who ultimately triumphed with a 3-1 victory

Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo kicked off 2025 with a goal against Arsenal at the Gtech Community Stadium on January 1, 2025.

His strike in the 13th minute provided a glimmer of hope for Brentford, who ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat, with Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino, and Gabriel Martinelli finding the net for the Gunners.

The game kicked off with high intensity, and it didn’t take long for the action to unfold. In the 13th minute, a defensive lapse by Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard allowed Bryan Mbeumo to pounce.

Mbeumo, showing his trademark composure, cut inside onto his left foot and unleashed a precise shot past David Raya, giving Brentford an early lead

However, Arsenal quickly regrouped. Just before the half-hour mark, Gabriel Jesus found the back of the net, capitalizing on a well-timed cross from Bukayo Saka. This equalizer shifted the momentum in favor of the Gunners

The second half saw Arsenal come out with renewed vigor. In the 50th minute, Mikel Merino put Arsenal ahead with a powerful header from a corner kick. Brentford’s defense, which had been resolute in the first half, began to show cracks

Three minutes later, Gabriel Martinelli extended Arsenal’s lead with a clinical finish, effectively sealing the game for the visitors. Brentford’s attempts to mount a comeback were thwarted by a disciplined Arsenal defense

Despite the loss, Mbeumo’s goal was a standout moment, showcasing his ability to capitalize on defensive errors and his precision in front of goal.

Mbeumo’s goal marked his 11th of the season in just 19 appearances, underscoring his status as a key player for Brentford.

Arsenal’s victory propels them to second place in the Premier League table, while Brentford remains in 12th position.
