  • Advocates for local competence

Two-time Indomitable Lions’ former head coach Jean Paul Akono has strongly condemned the idea of hiring a foreign coach to lead the Indomitable Lions after the sacking of Rigobert Song.

Speaking during CRTV’s flagship program “Le Debrief” on Sunday, March 2, the Sidney Olympic gold medalist, former and Canon de Yaounde gaffer expressed his disappointment in strong terms.

“I am strongly against the presence of a foreign head coach of the Cameroon Senior Men’s National Football team. Cameroon is endowed with a lot of competent coaches, capable of delivering results.”

“Bringing a foreigner will be an insult on to the Cameroonian coaching community. And to the Federation in charge of regulating the coaching activities”.

“We need a local coach who has proven his capacity at club levels as well as with the Junior categories,” he added.

Ever since, Coach Rigobert’s contrat came to an end on February 28,the battle for his replacement has become highly contested, with a strong foreign-based representation showing interest in the juicy post.

To CAF Instructor, Pierre Njili Ndengue;

“The future Indomitable lions coach, should be someone who masters the national territory, capable of bringing out local talents, as it use to be in the past”.

“Again,he must be opened to continuous learning, by participating in workshops, seminars and symposiums so as to get himself updated with the latest technical football developments. Also,these Cameroonians should have been winners of the Cup of Cameroon,local Championship and AFCON finalist,'” Njili added.

However, many football pundits believe names like Alexandre Belinga , Albert Meyonze,Sango Emmanuel Ndoumbe Boso, Yves Clement Aroga,Marius Omok and Achille Webo could be given a chance.

It should be recalled that Cameroon presently has 124 A CAF License holders as coaches. With the names of 28,yet to be release, after their just ended training session.
