23-year-old Cameroon international Blondon Meyapia Fongang has been crowned champion of the French third tier championship with Red Star who are sure of being champion with two matches left in the championship.

Coach Habib Beye’s team sealed the title win this Friday after Martigues beat their direct rivals for the title FC Niort. Red Star with 62 points and a 12 points gap with only three games left for their rivals are thus assured of winning the championship a week after achieving promotion to the French Ligue 2 championship.

The new champions will meet their fans for the first time since becoming champions on Monday when they step out to face Nimes in a delayed match day 31 fixture but their homecoming will be against Versailles FC on May 3.

Red Star won 18 of their 30 matches this season. Only losing on four occasions in their journey back to the Ligue 2 two years after they were relegated.

Blondon played 26 games and scored a goal for Red Star in the current campaign – which has been his best for the former SCO Angers sweeper since he moved to France from Fauve Azur Elite in Cameroon.
