Benjamin Mendy returns to football through FC Lorient

French Ligue 1 side, FC Lorient have completed the signing of Benjamin Mendy who just got acquitted of rape charges, on a two-year deal as a free agent, thus, giving him the chance to resume his football career.

The 29-year-old defender who has been off the pitch for two years, has been given the opportunity by the French Ligue 1 side to continue pursuing his dream from where he stopped.

Mendy has made a quick return to football just five days after being cleared of one count of rape and another of attempted rape last Friday.

The ex Manchester City defender whose contract expired with the Champions league winners last month, has completed all formalities at Lorient and is set to join the club as they engage in pre-season activities.

Mendy who became the Premier League’s most expensive defender when City paid £52m to Monaco for him in 2017, made over 75 appearances for former club, winning four Premier League titles with Manchester.

The left back counts equally counts ten caps for France, winning the World Cup n 2018.

His last attempt on the green turf was in August 2021 during Manchester City’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
