Bayelsa Queens FC on Wednesday 22 November, 2023 defeated hard fighting Ekiti Queens in Matchday 2 of the NWFL Premiership at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

The Prosperity Girls turned on the power in the first half as Shakirat Moshood scored the first goal in the 17 minute of play from a loose ball and she made no mistake as she fired home for the opener.

Bayelsa Queens deservedly scored a second goal via a penalty after a defender of Ekiti Queens handled the ball in the 18 yard box and Blessing Ilivieda made no mistake as she got the second goal in the 33 minute to end the first half with a two goal advantage.

On resumption of the second half, the Prosperity Girls tried to increase the tally, but Ekiti Queens stood toe to toe with their host as they upped their game in the second half that produced no goal.

Both teams played good football, but after 90 minute it was Bayelsa Queens that got all three points.

After the match, Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens Domo Okara, said “Ekiti Queens are a good side as they gave my girls a good fight”.

“Though we won, I was not impressed with the performance of my girls today, but it was an improvement from the first game we played in Akure and I know they will get better with each game,” Domo Okara added.

“My girls tried as you know they are just two years old in playing football, but they gave too much respect to Bayelsa Queens that was why we lost”Ekiti Queens Coach Okunwa Egubor said.

Next for Bayelsa Queens FC is an away game against Remo Stars Ladies in a Matchday 3 encounter in Ikenne on Wednesday, 29 November.
