Astres of Douala secured a resounding 2-0 victory over Canon Sportive in match day 14 of the elite one championship.

This win marked the fourth consecutive triumph for Coach Gabriel Zabo’s side, while Canon Sportive remained winless in their last four outings.

Astres of Douala dominated the match, employing a 3-4-2-1 formation that allowed them to control the tempo. Dylane Achimi spearheaded the attack, supported by Ahmed Shepeh and Arsene Mangana, who provided width and pace on the flanks. Captain Tchatchoua Rodrigue, Beo Bato marshaled the midfield, dictating the flow of play and creating scoring opportunities.

The first clear-cut chance came in the 20th minute when Dylane Achimi’s point-blank shot from a pinpoint Beo Bato cross was parried by Canon’s goalkeeper, Franck Dylane Ipoua.

The pressure continued to mount as Astres pushed for the opener. The breakthrough finally arrived at the 36th minute when Arsene Mangana’s perfectly weighted corner kick was headed home by Beo Bato, giving Astres a well-deserved 1-0 lead.

Despite their dominance, Astres were unable to add to their tally in the first half. Canon Sportive’s counterattacks were largely ineffective, with their only notable foray coming from Zacheria Junior, who embarked on a mazy run past three defenders before delivering a cross that Victoriel Yembe headed wide.

In the second half, Astres continued to dictate the pace. Ahmed Shepeh doubled the lead at the 57th minute with a clinical finish, prompting Canon’s coach, Olivier Nankam, to make a double substitution in an attempt to alter the course of the game. However, these tactical changes failed to yield the desired impact.

This victory marked a significant milestone for Astres of Douala, as they extended their winning streak—a feat not typically associated with the team. Meanwhile, Canon Sportive suffered their third consecutive defeat, following losses to Gazelle and Aigle du Mungo.

Coach Olivier Nankam attributed Canon’s struggles to the absence of key players due to injuries and illness, which resulted in losing crucial points in Douala. He expressed optimism about improving their performance in their final two games, promising a more robust display.
