Yves Eloundou Tanguy scored in either half to inspire to earn a hard-fought 2-0 victory for Apejes of Mfou in match day 16 of the MTN Elite 1 championship.

The dramatic contest this Saturday at the Olembe Annex ended well for coach Ndongo Emma courtesy a brace from Eloundou while APEJES’ custodian Ambassa Messobo Gaspard kept a clean sheet after saving a late YAFOOT FC penalty.

Apejes entered the match day 16 fixture at the Olembe Annex stadium hoping to continue their winning run after defeating Bamboutos FC last time out.

The derby started well for 2021 Elite 1 runners-up. Noh Nafeng Yvan picked Eloundou with a great ball from the left side 28 minutes after kick-off. The former TKC forward rounded Paul Dissounga of YAFOOT before making it 1-0 for APEJES.

APEJES came close to doubling their lead five minutes later, but this time around Dissounga produced a safe equal to the shot.

The boys from Mfou spent a bulk of the first 45 minutes with the ball though having to be vigilant from the constant breaks from Steve Belobo and his fellow YAFOOT forwards.

APEJES resumed the second segment just like the first; playing a high press with insistence to open up spaces in the heart of YAFOOT’s defense.

Dissounga was busier on the day, pulling a number of saves to deny APEJES the insurance goal.

Coach Max Makolle made a number of adjustments to his side in search of the equalizer.

Yoan Bayano picked an unmarked Eloundou with an interesting ball six minutes from time. For the second time in the afternoon one time Colombe forward made YAFOOT pay.

Relegation battling YAFOOT had hopes of a late comeback charge after they won a penalty in the 90th minute.

Unfortunately for Belobo had his penalty saved by Ambassa as Tekeu Parfait and co held on for a perfect win.

The final whistle sanctioned a third win in the past three games which takes APEJES up to the fourth spot in Pool B with 21 points ahead of their next outing against struggling Dragon Yaounde.

YAFOOT extend winless run to four games and are last but one with just 15 points.
