Aigle Royal of Menoua picked up a narrow one-nil win at home to Union Sportif of Abong Mbang on Wednesday in an advanced match day 11 fixture in the MTN Elite Two championship to reignite hopes of finishing in the top four payoffs positions in pool A.
Aigle Royal came into the game in full confidence after their shock 1-0 away to FAP in the previous round of matches while them USA were hoping to barnish the ghost of leading and being pegged back as it has been in two of their last three MTN Elite Two matches.
Eden Ymele scored the lone goal of the contest barely 22 minutes into it, beating goalkeeper Martial Meyangue from close range.
That early goal already meant Aigle Royal had already done more than what obtained in the reversed fixture over a month ago in Abong Mbang.
That goal didn’t punch the bubble of the two teams as they remained in the front foot throughout the rest of the first segment.
Aigle Royal took advantage of the pause and returned with a more cautious approach which they maintained till the end despite the sporadic chances that fell for Abong Mbang.
The latest victory makes it successive wins for the El Pacha who move up the fifth spot, with the same 13 points as Bafmeng United and just two points behind leaders Eding Sport de la Lekie going into the weekend matches.
