AFCON U-20 : Uganda World Cup dream still on despite Eagles Test

The Uganda Hippos will on Thursday evening lock horns with West Africa giants Nigeria at Suez Canal Stadium in the quarter-finals of the Total Energies AFCON U-20 championship

The hippos finished top of group B after Sunday action against South Sudan while Nigeria came second in group A.

After Uganda’s debut performance in 2021 ,Hippo’s Coach Jackson Mayanja expectations will be to see Uganda storm the Semi-finals for the second successive time.

It should noted that the four teams to reach the semi -finals will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup due to take place in 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒂 from 20th May -11th June.

“ The most important moment was Qualification to the Quarter finals .Our target as a team is to qualify for World Cup ,We have one game against Nigeria to achieve it ” 𝑪𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 Jackson Mayanja.

In Mauritania ,Uganda won one of the tough opponents Burkina Faso at the 2021 edition on spotkicks to reach the semi-finals.The test is now on as they face 7 time champions Nigeria.

Uganda opened this year’s edition with a statement after a 2#1 win over CAR ,followed by a 2#2 draw against Congo Brazzaville and barren stalemate in their last group game with neighbors South Sudan.

Nigeria started with a 1#0 defeat against Senegal ,beat hosts Egypt 1#0 and sealed the knock out stage phase with a 2#0 victory against Mozambique.

Uganda have reached Quarter-finals for their second successive time.

Nigeria have featured in the knock out stages in every Total Energies U-20 AFCON championship they have taken in.

The Uganda Hippos have portrayed quality display at the 2023 Total Energies U-20 AFCON championship in Egypt.

The next stage will require the young lads to turn up in the most needed time the country needs their magic. Uganda duo Rogers Mugisha and Travis Mutyaba have won the Man of Match Accolades on different occasions.

The hippos side will hope to see their captain Isma Mugulusi ,Titus Ssematimba ,Rogers Mugisha ,Travis Mutyaba and others putting up a show against Nigeria.
