The Wild Beasts of Central African Republic have shattered Madagascar’s hope of reaching the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations, following a 2-0 win over the latter, courtesy of a brace from Louis Mafouta, in day four of the AFCON qualification at the Reunification Stadium.

The Quevilly-Rouen striker as usual, was the hero for the Central African side, scoring back to back in the last two encounters.

After picking up a well deserved 3-0 over Madagascar last week following a brace from Louis Mafouta and one from Isaac Ngoma, CAR ended up grabbing all three points in this return leg game.

The match went underway after over 15 minutes of delay for reason yet to be made known.

There wasn’t much to highlight in the early minutes of the first segment were the game remained goalless, until the 40th minute when 28-year-old Mafouta opened scores.

Having kept the 1-0 lead to the break and back for the last half, the host continued to dominate the game against a wasteful visiting side.

Madagascar struggled to find a way of hitting the back of the net but to no avail as the scores remained unchanged until deep into regular time when Mafouta doubled.

CAR secured the 2-0 lead until the final blast of the whistle, a cause for a light celebration from the victors who stand a chance of qualifying after this win having earned 7 points so far, unlike Madagascar.

The wild beasts have kept their hopes alive of reaching the 2023 edition of the Biannual event scheduled to run from January next year in Ivory Coast ,after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Angola in round two.

Captain, Raoul Savoy amd teammates will be hoping to defend the colours of the nation in the competition next year for the very first time. Though, they still have Angola and Ghana to face.

Madagascar sits bottom of group E and have been partially denied the chance of making a second AFCON appearance.
