Qualifiers For Nigeria Women Basketball League Commences June 1- Bini Queens To Play In Atlantic Conference

Benin City- The qualifiers for this year’s Nigeria Women Basketball League has been slated to commence on Thursday June 1st, 2023.

The qualifiers which have been divided into two conferences, that is the Atlantic and Savannah would have Bini Queens of Benin City, Edo State playing in the Atlantic conference of the competition.

According to the features, the Atlantic conference which has 16 teams competing for honour would commence it’s campaign on Thursday 1st of June through Sunday 11th, 2023 at the indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium , Benin city, Edo state, while the Savannah conference is expected to kick start their game as from Wednesday June 7th to Sunday 17th, 2023 in Zaria, kaduna state.

Teams in the Atlantic conference are; First Bank of Lagos, Dolphins of Lagos, Sunshines Angel of Akure, Delta Force of Delta State, First Deep water of Lagos, Coal city Queens of Enugu and Olutole Babes of lbadan.

Others are;Ogun Babes of Abeokuta, MFM of Lagos, Ekiti Angels of Ado- Ekiti and lGP Queens of Lagos.

Also in this group are; Black Gold Basketball of Abia, Bayelsa Blue Whales of Yenogua, Bini Queens of Benin city and kwara Falcons women Basketball of ilorin.

The Savannah conference which will be having their games in Zaria, kaduna state are expected to kick off their competition on Wednesday June 7th to Sunday June 17th, 2023.

The 18 teams that made up this group are; Air Warriors Basketball club of Abuja, Benue Princess of Makurdi, FCT Wings of Abuja, Kada Angels of Kaduna, Plateau Rocks Basketball of Jos, Nassarawa Babes of Lafia, Kanen Queens of Borno and Ahip Queens of Kano.

Others are; NAF Female Basketball of Abuja, Nigeria Army Amazon of Zaria, Exousia Basketball of Adamawa and Nigeria immigration Female Basketball of Abuja.

Also in this conference includes, Nigeria Customs Female Basketball of Abuja, Zamfara Queens of Zamfara, Equity Angels of Kebbi, City Sparks of Gboko, Adamawa Blue Flames of Yola and Taraba Hurricanes of Taraba State.

Speaking with journalists at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the Head coach of the Bini Queens Basketball of Benin city, coach Victor Umoru said the Edo team has been struggling since the past 17 years to get to this qualifiers of the competition.

Coach Umoru who was optimistic that his Queens would do better in the league however stated that with the encouragement coming from the state government through the management of the sports commission coupled with the topnotch facilities at the venue of the event, there is no doubting the fact that his team is not going to do well in the qualifiers.
