After a four-year absence, the Women’s Cup made its return at the end of February 2023, in the sidelines of the celebration for the 38th edition of the International Women’s Day, on March 8.
The final match of this edition is interesting as it pits Authentic Ladies FC of Douala, D2 champions just two years ago, against Louves Minproff, three-time champions and current title holders.
The final which will be played this March 7 at the Ngoa-Ekelle stadium will give a great show between these two teams to close the 2023 edition of the Women’s Cup. The match will be interesting given that the two teams have had contrasting fortunes in the Guinness Super League, as well as during this tournament.
Louves Minproff to succeed herself?
Current title holders Louves have reached the final of the Women’s Cup again. The club which has 15 trophies (6 championships, six Cameroonian cups and three women’s tournament) intends to ink history of women’s football. The 2023 edition of the tournament can make it five-time the club of the Ministry of Women and Family Promotion has contested the final phase of the Women’s Cup.
To get to this point in this 2023 edition of the tournament, the ministerial club dispatched the teams that stood in its way. In the ¼ final, Louves Minproff snuffed out ( 4-3) Éclair of Sa’a on penalties and qualified for the 1/2 final. In the semi-final, the qualification was played to the end and was won (2-1) against a combative AS Fortuna team that had mauled Rails Football Academy 6-0 in the quarter-final.
In the Guinness Super League, Louves Minproff has had a mixed start to the season (6th with 13 points), but the club is on a meteoric rise with 2 consecutive wins. The final of the Women’s Cup came at the right time to give this team confidence. Bernadette Anong’s girls will be able to rely on Ghislaine Larissa Nkou but also on Pauline Priso in great shape. The striker has already scored four goals in the league and 1 goal in the semi-final win over AS Fortuna.
In case of victory against Authentic Ladies FC, Louves Minproff will become the most successful club in the history of women’s football in Cameroon, surpassing by one trophy the mythical club of women’s football, Canon Girls of Yaounde, which also has 15 trophies, including 9 Cameroon cups and 6 championships.
Authentic Ladies FC, formidable outsiders
Authentic Ladies FC of Douala has never been so close to such a feat. The club which made its first steps in the professional championship a year ago has done well. Season 3 of the Guinness Super League will not contradict this. Currently in 4th place with 14 points, Fernandez Fagnia Fagnia’s girls are enjoying a string of positive results, thanks in part to the arrival of experienced players such as strikers Marie Kibinde, Odette Chahkes, Tim Shalom Makoma at the club.
In the semi-final, Authentic Ladies FC won (1-0) against Ngadeu FFA thanks to a goal from their Chadian international Solange Larkingam. Ngadeu FFA had reached the semi-finals after having caused a sensation during the tournament. In the round of 16, the Ngaoundere club won (3-2) against Assimba FC while in the quarter-finals, they quickly erased Benue.
Authentic Ladies FC of Douala inflicted a crushing defeat on AJSAC (7-1) in the quarter-final, after the latter had defeated Caiman Filles of Douala (3-0) in the last 16. Authentic Ladies who eliminated Ngadeu FFA could surprise Louves Minproff, given the quality of play demonstrated since the beginning of this season in the league.
