Cameroon international Darlin Yongwa was on target for Norwich City on Tuesday night, scoring his first goal in yellow as the Canaries cruised to an impressive 4-0 away victory over Derby County in the English Championship.
The former FC Lorient defender found the back of the net in the 44th minute to put Norwich 3-0 ahead at Pride Park, capping an excellent first-half performance from Philippe Clement’s men.
Yongwa reacted brilliantly after Andre Brooks’ delivery from the right was deflected into his path. The Cameroonian defender needed little invitation, unleashing a powerful left-footed effort from inside the penalty area that flew into the net, leaving Derby goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström with no chance.
The 25-year-old had already played a part in Norwich’s opening goal. His header from Jack Stacey’s delivery was saved, but Anthony Musaba reacted quickest to the rebound to put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute. Paris Maghoma doubled the advantage in the 27th minute before Yongwa added the third just before half-time.
Substitute Jovon Makama completed the demolition with a spectacular long-range strike in the 66th minute, sealing a 4-0 victory and Norwich’s third consecutive Championship win.
For Yongwa, the goal represents an important personal milestone as he continues to establish himself at Carrow Road. His contribution against Derby was particularly impressive, combining defensive responsibility with attacking involvement as Norwich secured a commanding away victory.
The Canaries will now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to Bristol City, with the Cameroonian hoping to build on an encouraging night at Pride Park.
