André Onana and Trabzonspor showed remarkable character on Monday night, coming from two goals down to defeat Çaykur Rizespor 4-3 and extend their impressive winning run.
Rizespor raced into a 2-0 lead through Gennaro Borrelli, putting Trabzonspor under serious pressure and leaving Onana exposed as the hosts took control of the contest.
But the Cameroon international remained composed as Trabzonspor gradually fought their way back into the match.
The real turning point came after the break. Melih Kabasakal pulled one back before Aral Şimşir quickly levelled. Franculino then completed the turnaround, giving Trabzonspor a 3-2 lead.
Rizespor responded to make it 3-3, but Trabzonspor refused to lose their grip on the game. Franculino’s second goal restored their lead, and Onana’s role then became crucial in helping his team protect the advantage and see out a tense closing spell.
While the goalkeeper was unable to keep a clean sheet, his contribution to the comeback should be viewed in the context of the team’s overall resilience. He stayed composed through a difficult opening spell and remained behind his defence as Trabzonspor transformed the match after half-time.
The victory further strengthens Trabzonspor’s remarkable momentum, with the club extending their six-match winning streak across all competitions.
For Onana, it was another important outing in a Trabzonspor shirt and another experience of the fighting spirit developing within the team.
From 2-0 down to 4-3 winners, Trabzonspor once again demonstrated that they are capable of responding when adversity strikes.
Onana did not score the goals that changed the game, but his composure and presence helped Trabzonspor navigate the pressure and protect another hard-earned victory as their winning run continues.
