Cameroon have received a major boost ahead of the knockout phase of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after medical examinations confirmed that star forward Marie Gisèle Ngah Manga did not suffer a serious ankle injury during Sunday’s victory over Ghana.
The prolific striker, who has scored three goals in two matches at the tournament, was forced off in the 70th minute after picking up an ankle injury in the Lionesses’ hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Black Queens.
Ngah Manga’s winner secured Cameroon’s place in the quarter-finals, but her early exit raised fears that the Indomitable Lionesses could lose one of their most influential players at a crucial stage of the competition.
Those concerns have now been eased.
According to Ecosanté, which conducted the interview, Cameroon Women’s National Team Press Officer Jean Marie Nkoussa confirmed that the striker’s injury is not serious and that she is expected to return for the remainder of the tournament.
“The medical examinations carried out on Marie Gisèle Ngah Manga revealed nothing serious. It was more of a scare than anything else. The player is responding well to treatment and will be available to play the upcoming matches with her teammates,” Nkoussa told Ecosanté.
The update comes as a major relief for head coach Valentine Nguele and the entire Cameroon camp, with Ngah Manga currently leading the scoring charts after netting three goals in the opening two group matches.
Her availability significantly strengthens Cameroon’s hopes of making a deep run in Morocco as the Indomitable Lionesses continue their quest for a first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
Having already secured qualification for the quarter-finals, Cameroon can now prepare for the knockout rounds with renewed confidence, knowing their leading scorer is expected to remain at the heart of their attacking ambitions.
