A new Cameroonian-eligible talent is set to grace the German top flight after David Mokwa helped SV Elversberg secure a historic promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history.

Elversberg’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Just four years ago, during the 2021/22 campaign, the modest German side were competing in the fourth tier of German football. Their rapid climb through the divisions has now culminated in a fairytale promotion to the Bundesliga, completing one of the most impressive stories in recent German football.

Among the key contributors to this historic achievement was 22-year-old striker David Mokwa. The forward played an important role in the promotion-securing campaign, scoring six goals in 17 appearances after joining the club midway through the season. His impact added attacking firepower at a crucial stage as Elversberg pushed over the finish line.

Born in France, Mokwa has represented France at youth level, featuring for the French U18 and U19 sides. However, the striker remains eligible to represent Cameroon internationally through his parents, keeping the door open for a potential future with the Indomitable Lions.

For Cameroon, Mokwa’s emergence is another encouraging sign as more dual-national talents continue to rise across Europe’s top leagues. With Bundesliga football now awaiting him next season, the young forward will have an even bigger platform to continue his development — and perhaps catch the attention of Cameroon selectors.
