Elite One side Canon Yaoundé produced a strong performance to defeat PWD Bamenda 3–1 in a heated Match Day Nine clash played at the Omnisports Stadium Annex Yaoundé.
Canon made a perfect start to the encounter, taking the lead just two minutes into the game through Henri Balla, who capitalized on an early opportunity to put the hosts ahead. The early breakthrough set the tone for the Yaoundé-based side, who controlled much of the first half.
As the game approached halftime, Canon doubled their advantage when Franck Steve Belobo found the back of the net in the 45th minute, giving the home side a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into the break.
Belobo returned after the restart with the same determination, striking again in the 52nd minute to complete his brace and extend Canon’s lead to 3–0. The forward’s second goal effectively put the match beyond the reach of PWD Bamenda.
The encounter, however, was far from calm, with tensions boiling over during different moments of the game. Both teams finished the match with red cards, as Junior Nguimbat of PWD Bamenda and Canon’s Yann Mbah Ndjock were sent off. Canon’s head coach Patrice Noukeu was also shown a red card from the technical area, while PWD’s physiotherapist was dismissed as tempers flared around the touchline.
Despite being three goals down, PWD Bamenda managed to pull one back late in the game through Boris Kache in the 87th minute, but the goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
The victory gives Canon Yaoundé an important boost in the standings as they continue their campaign in Cameroon’s top flight, while PWD Bamenda will be left to reflect on a difficult outing marked by both defeat and disciplinary issues.
